eVrika is a
free software for organizing files and folders stored in removable (USB sticks, SD Cards etc) or optical media (CD, DVD, BLUE-RAY etc). For the rest of this article I will be referencing to all these media as
“removable”.
The Problem
Removable
media are used more and more these days for storing music, pictures, movies and
programs, as also backups and files related to the interests of every person
using the computer. While their capacity grows, and their price is low, I
believe they will be a very nice storage solution.
But their
advantage of big capacity and mobility can turn into a disadvantage when the
time to search for files stored in these, arrives. Especially if we have many
removable media, there is the possibility to spend too much time to find a file
and in some cases, we will never find it.
Here comes
eVrika to give a solution to this problem of searching and finding files stored
in many removable media.
How it
works. (yes it works!)
Adding
files and folders.
After burning
(or copying) our files to a removable media, we run eVrika and add to the
database the files and folders of the removable media. This happens
automatically. Only the names of files and folders are added, not their
contents.
To add
files and folders to eVrika, follow these steps
- Choose the source from the list,
or click on “Browse”
button

- To add the files and folders
tree to the database click on “Add” button. Then, write the returned “ID”
to the removable media with a pen. Now the files and folders are in the
eVrika database and you can search for them.
